Meyer Academy and Mamlachti Agamim

Einat Cohen-Nissan’s classes from Meyer Academy did an activity based on renowned satirical artist Danny Karman's "Al HaMapah" ("On the Map") series of thought-provoking caricatures of the map of Israel. After examining some of Karman's drawings and talking about the events and opinions they represented, the students created their own caricature maps to exchange with their partners in Shosh Alfandari and Nechama Bornshtein's classes at Mamlachti Agamim. Through this activity, the students on both sides learned about their own and each other's perceptions about Israel.

During the CJE's Professional Development Conference on Israeli culture, we showcased some of the students' work so that other teachers (including those who do not participate in Gesher Hinuch) could learn about the activity and consider using it with their own students.

Temple Beit Hayam- Choni Hameagel

Flat Stanley is a flat puppet that runs through the post from one country to the other. Choni Hameagel got flat puppets from Temple Beit Hayam and 4 of them were a trigger to an activity as a pilot for the next year. 4 students were chosen. They chose a place in the school yard they liked the most, pictures were taken, every student with his flat stanley. Then they put it on a page, wrote about themselves and the pakage was sent to the school partner.

Gan Narkis, Temple Beit David preschool partner, in action

Dikka`s preschool class, Gan Narkis, started working on the stamps project. A special guest came to the Gan: Yehoshua Magar. Dikla found out that one of the students grandparent has very professional stamps collection and he got some medals for it, international medals.
Yehoshua explained what is a stamp for, how do we put it, how do we take it of, how we arrange for collections.
The children asked him so many questions. They "felt" the stamp and appreciated the idea.
The students brought the stamps assignment home: creating a stamp with the parent on a chosen theme concerned 60 years to Istael.
